“Es regnet auf unsere Liebe / Det regnar på vår kärlek / It Rains on Our Love” [S 1946, Ingmar Bergman]
Zitat: | Two loners meet in a train station, both of them battling on the fringes of polite Swedish society: Maggi is pregnant and unsure of what to do, while David has recently been released from prison and is faced with the difficult task of starting his life anew. United in their struggles against societal convention, the two fall in love, creating a life together in a small cabin. In spite of the numerous challenges they must face daily and their inability to trust their fellow human beings, their love for one another helps them continue to fight.
It Rains On Our Love is only the second film from master director Ingmar Bergman: a hymn to true love and one of his most optimistic early films |
“Schiff nach Indialand / Skepp till India land / A Ship Bound for India” [S 1947, Ingmar Bergman]
Zitat: | When hunchbacked sailor Johannes Blum returns to his home port after seven years, he finds his former sweetheart, Sally, despondent.
Seven years earlier, Johannes had met the beautiful chorus girl aboard the salvage boat he lived on with his family. Having discovered that he was losing his sight, Johannes’ abrasive, drunken father Alexander had brought his mistress to live with his long-suffering wife and son in their claustrophobic cabin. As the four strived to co-exist in the boat’s fervid atmosphere, an unlikely love develops between Johannes and his father’s mistress.
In A Ship Bound for India Bergman examines the inner turmoil that each of the inhabitants experience in their awkward situation—a theme he would return to again and again. First screened internationally at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival, A Ship Bound for India was awarded a special mention by the Jury. |
“Nahe dem Leben / Nära livet / Brink of Life” [S 1958, Ingmar Bergman]
Zitat: | Ingmar Bergman’s acclaimed aesthetic style and knack for subtle storytelling are beautifully achieved in Brink of Life, which garnered a Best Director award for Bergman and a shared Best Actress award for its three lead actresses at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival.
Three expectant mothers meet in a maternity ward, each at different stages of pregnancy. As they suffer through several issues faced during pregnancy—miscarriages, the difficulty of labour, the stress of an unwanted child—they are given new perspectives on life and relationships, and ultimately find comfort in one another. The gritty subject matter—which also offers a harsh perception of the lack of emotion in modern medicine—is perfectly complemented by Bergman’s naturalistic directorial style. It is this style, together with the powerful performances of his female leads, which makes Brink of Life a compelling example of Bergman’s artistry.

Bitte, bitte. Bin über den Madman-RSS-Feed darauf gestoßen, den ich schon länger nicht mehr im Feedreeder abgerufen hatte.
Ich schätze mal, dass der Neo sich für alle drei Discs interessiert. _________________ Race hate isn't human nature; race hate is the abandonment of human nature.

"Brink of Life" ist genial
Die beiden anderen kenne ich noch nicht - wird sich aber sehr bald ändern. Mein letzter neuer Bergmanfilm war "Von Angesicht zu Angesicht" und das ist nun schon wieder 'n gutes halbes Jahr her |
