Forgotten passion rudely awakens in Francois Truffaut's
poignant ballad of obsession, The Woman Next Door. Comfortably
settled as a bourgeois husband, Gerard Depardieu finds his life
irrevocably disrupted when his former lover, played by Fanny Ardant,
moves in next door. The two unwisely reactivate their stormy
relationship with disastrous results. Truffaut counters the
tempestuous story with a lush, saturated palette and striking
geometric settings. The result is a film of delicate, austere tension,
and a personal favorite of the director.
