Isabelle Huppert plays Beatrice, a shy 19-year-old hairdresser who falls rapturously in love with Francois, a literature student. He is captivated by her graceful movements and excited by her virginity. But their romance is short-lived; Francois soon breaks with Beatrice, leading to her mental collapse. The result is a bittersweet twist on what should have been a Cinderella story. Claude Goretta directed this sensitive drama.
