Am 23. Januar 2007 wird das britische Label Optimum Releasing ein "Luis Bunuel Boxset" mit 8 DVDs veröffentlichen. Folgende Filme wird es enthalten:

Zitat:
THAT OBSCURE OBJECT OF DESIRE
Adapted from Pierre Louys' 1898 novel La Femme et le Pantin, That Obscure Object of Desire marked Buñuel’s final film. Brimming with the subversive wit which characterises Buñuel's finest work, the film takes satiric aim at a decadent, decaying society riddled by political unrest and moral bankruptcy. Nominated for two Academy Awards, it’s an apt summation of the director’s obsession with the connection between sex and violence and a fitting epitaph to a remarkable career.

Extras:
- Une Oeuvre a Repriser documentary on That Obscure Object of Desire (26 mins)
- Theatrical trailer

DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is an ideal introduction to the director’s work. Fernando Rey, Stéphane Audran, Delphine Seyring, and Jean-Pierre Cassel head the extraordinary cast of a film made when Buñuel was 72 years-old. Full of passion and fire, it was the 1972 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film.

DIARY OF A CHAMBER MAID
The second screen version of Octave Mirbeau's novel (originally filmed in 1946 by Jean Renoir), The Diary of a Chambermaid is another of Buñuel’s biting and brilliant attacks on the bourgeoisie. Charting the rise of 30s Fascism, Buñuel’s film also intelligently considers political, social and sexual positions in relation to the perversity of human desires. Moreau excels as the sharp-witted servant, one of the most fascinating of all Buñuel’s proto-feminist heroines.

Extras:
- Une Ange dans les Marecages documentary on Diary of A Chambermaid (26 mins)
- Theatrical trailer
- Interview with Jeanne Moreau tbc

PHANTOM OF LIBERTY
Buñuel's penultimate film seems fired by the critical and commercial approbation enjoyed by The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Ever the iconoclast, the director made sure that this was a far less easy pill to swallow. Best approached as a literal comedy of manners – the film is perversely funny and punctuated with a series of quite brilliant sight gags – The Phantom of Liberty argues against the acceptance of strict moral codes, suggesting that the only way to live freely is to embrace the coincidences of the world.

Extras:
- Le Celebration du Hasard documentary on Phantom (16 mins)
- Theatrical trailer

MILKY WAY
Religious pilgrims Pierre (Paul Frankeur) and Jean (Laurent Terzieff) journey to a shrine in the north of Spain. Their faith is severely tested by some of the irreverent characters they confront in the course of their pilgrimage. Even chance meetings with Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and the Devil are not quite what Pierre and Jean have been prepared for in their religious training. One of the most challenging and irreverent of the director’s later works, The Milky Way also continues Buñuel's ongoing disdain of Roman Catholicism. Funny, intelligent and sardonic, its availability will be justly celebrated by Buñuel enthusiasts.

Extras:
- Bunuel, Athee Grace a Dieu documentary on Milky Way (32 mins)
- Theatrical trailer

TRISTANA
A surreal criticism of Catholicism and the modern world, the Academy Award nominated Tristana offered conclusive proof that Buñuel had lost none of his bite. Essentially a contest of wills between the two lead characters (with Deneuve and Rey both giving excellent performances), Tristana is a compelling black comedy that offers a characteristically audacious look at sexual obsession and bourgeois sensibilities.

Extras:
- Rites documentary on Tristana (20 mins)
- Theatrical trailer

LA JOVEN (ALSO CALLED LA JEUNE FILLE)
Luis Buñuel and Hugo Butler (under the pseudonym "H.B. Addis") adapted Peter Matthiessen's story Travelin' Man for this drama about a black jazz musician, on the run from a false accusation of raping a white woman.
One of the less celebrated of Buñuel’s works – though it was nominated for the Palme d’Or and bought the director a Cannes special mention – The Young One is a complex and controversial work dealing with illicit desire and racial prejudice. One of only two of Buñuel’s English language features.

Extras:
- Presentation du Film documentary on La Jeune Fille (5 mins)
- Theatrical trailer

BELLE DE JOUR
Expertly dramatising the collision between fantasy and reality, and between depravity and respectable bourgeois values, Buñuel, working from the novel by Joseph Kessel, fashions an immaculately designed (the fetishistic interiors and production designs are astonishing) and amoral comedy of manners. Long unavailable, the film won the Golden Lion at the 1967 Venice Film Festival.

Extras:
- Histoire du Film documentary about Belle De Jour (30 mins)
- Theatrical trailer
- Commentary from Spanish Cinema expert Professor Peter William Evans

"Belle de Jour" wird auch einzeln als "40th Anniversary Edition" angeboten. Ob die anderen Filme auch einzeln auf den Markt kommen werden, ist mir bisher nicht bekannt.
